If you’re looking for lift equipment to get off the ground and get jobs done, you may have to consider articulating or telescopic equipment, but which is best for your specific needs? Additionally, another factor to consider is the electric and combustion engine options which can change the capabilities of your machine.
Articulating Boom Lifts
These machines are used to reach difficult areas due to the capability of the 360-degree movement of the platform through joint arm and segment boom sections. This system creates a level of versatility for operators to reach areas in awkward positions. Due to the maneuverability of the articulating lift arm and the availability of electric equipment these machines are also great for indoor use as the machine can bend to fit into tight indoor spaces.
Telescopic Boom Lifts
With telescopic lift equipment, these machines allow you to reach far heights with their extended outreach through straight arms. These machines can extend in a single direction with some angle however due to the telescopic structure of the lift angles and rotation is limited. Typically, telescopic equipment is fitted with rugged tires which allow them to run well on rough terrain as well as some that have four-wheel drive too. Due to being mostly fitted with combustion engines these machines are not best suited for indoor use as well as the limited indoor fit due to the telescopic arm.
So, which is best for you?
If you’re doing anything involving the following, you’ll be best equipped with an articulating boom lift:
- Hard to reach areas at awkward angles.
- Tasks that need you to adjust position frequently.
- Working in small or tight spaces, especially indoors.
When the task at hand involves the following, the best equipment would be a telescopic piece of equipment:
- Far and long reach going beyond 70ft.
- Working on rougher terrain off road.
- Lift of materials to high positions with elevated platforms.
The best machine for your needs is one that can tick all the boxes. Depending on if your work requires you to reach awkward areas or indoors your best bet is going with articulating boom lifts, industries like warehousing, plumbing & roofing benefit from these features. Comparatively if you’re working outside and have the need to reach higher spaces like in industries of painting, bridgework, electrical work for example, telescopic equipment would suit best due to its mechanical characteristics.
